– After a two-week step outside the SIAC against non-conference competition, the Allen University football returned to league play Saturday afternoon and hosted Miles College. Despite totaling more first downs than the Golden Bears, the Yellow Jackets fell, 33-13.

Miles jumped out to an early 17-0 lead through the first two quarters before the Yellow Jackets found their own offensive success. With 2:51 left in the first half, quarterback Jamir Dismukes scrambled for a one-yard touchdown run to cap-off an 11-play, 78-yard scoring drive. The ensuing extra-point was blocked, and the touchdown would be the final score before the half as Allen went into the locker room facing a deficit, 17-6.

Dismukes finished the afternoon with 128 passing yards as the Cleveland, Ohio native completed 12-of-21 pass attempts for one touchdown and two interceptions. In the fourth quarter, Allen substituted Michael Reese into the game at quarterback and the senior completed five-of-eight passes for 49 yards with one interception.

The Golden Bears extended their lead in the third quarter by sacking Dismukes in the end zone for a safety, and adding a touchdown run to go-ahead, 26-6, at the end of three quarters.

With 12 minutes left in the fourth, Miles missed a 44-yard field goal attempt and turned the ball over to the Yellow Jackets at the Allen 27-yard line. Over the next seven plays, Allen drove the next 73 yards and with 7:48 left to play, Dismukes connected with wide receiver Winston Reese down the left sideline for a 15-yard touchdown pass, marking the first time this season Reese has found the end zone.

Reese reeled in a game-high five receptions that totaled 46 yards. Kaleb Commings led Allen in receiving yards with 65 on four grabs. Both Montrell White and Nanders Lawrence each tallied 30 receiving yards in the loss.

Allen totaled 252 yards of offense in the loss, including 177 yards through the air in the passing attack, resulting in 21 first downs to Miles’ 19.

On the ground, Fabian Duncan finished the day as Allen’s leading rusher with 51 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively, Kirkland Boone recorded double-digit tackles with 11 and added a fumble recovery to his effort. Freshman linebacker Jayshawn Smalls made four solo tackles and assisted on five others to pair with a forced fumble and interception.

The Yellow Jackets continue their three-game homestand next Saturday, October 5 against Albany State. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
